TRT-induced Infertility

Meaning

TRT-induced Infertility is a predictable clinical consequence of exogenous Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) in men, resulting from the suppression of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Gonadal (HPG) axis. The introduction of external testosterone signals the pituitary to cease production of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), which are essential for endogenous testicular testosterone production and spermatogenesis. This state of azoospermia or oligozoospermia is a functional, often reversible, form of secondary hypogonadism.
