TRT Fluid Retention

Meaning

TRT Fluid Retention refers to the clinical side effect of peripheral edema or water weight gain sometimes observed during Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). This effect is primarily mediated by the supraphysiological conversion of exogenous testosterone into estrogen, which then influences the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) and renal sodium reabsorption. Managing this transient fluid shift is an important aspect of optimizing TRT protocols for patient comfort and cardiovascular health. This is a common, though usually manageable, physiological response.
