Trinucleotide Repeat

Meaning

A Trinucleotide Repeat is a sequence of three DNA nucleotides that is tandemly repeated multiple times in a row within a gene, such as the CAG or CGG sequence. In the context of hormonal health and longevity, the length of these repeats can be highly variable between individuals and is clinically significant because an abnormally increased number of repeats can cause specific genetic disorders, many of which manifest with neurocognitive or endocrine dysfunction. Assessing repeat length can provide predictive information about an individual’s genetic vulnerability.
