Triglyceride Mobilization

Meaning

The physiological process of breaking down stored triglycerides, the primary form of fat in adipose tissue, into free fatty acids and glycerol, which are then released into the bloodstream to be used as energy by other tissues. This process, known as lipolysis, is a crucial catabolic pathway activated during periods of fasting, energy deficit, or high energy demand. Efficient mobilization is essential for maintaining energy homeostasis and supporting metabolic flexibility.
