Trifluoroacetic Acid (TFA)

Meaning

Trifluoroacetic Acid (TFA) is a strong, corrosive organic acid widely used in chemical synthesis and, notably, as a critical reagent in the production and purification of synthetic peptides, including many bio-identical and therapeutic hormones. While not a biological molecule itself, its presence is essential in the manufacturing of hormone-based medications and is often used in the final stages of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) for purifying these compounds. Trace residues must be meticulously controlled in the final pharmaceutical product.
