TRH Agonism

Meaning

TRH Agonism refers to the pharmacological action of a substance that binds to and activates the Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone (TRH) receptor, primarily located on thyrotroph cells in the anterior pituitary gland. TRH is a hypothalamic tripeptide that stimulates the release of Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) and prolactin. An agonist, therefore, mimics or enhances the natural TRH signal, potentially increasing the production of TSH and subsequent thyroid hormones (T4 and T3).
