Treg/Th17 Balance

Meaning

Treg/Th17 balance refers to the critical, reciprocal relationship and dynamic equilibrium between two distinct subsets of T helper lymphocytes: Regulatory T cells (Tregs) and T helper 17 cells (Th17). This immunological balance is a central determinant of immune system health, where Tregs act to suppress inflammation and maintain self-tolerance, while Th17 cells promote pro-inflammatory responses and are crucial for defense against extracellular pathogens. Disruption of this precise ratio is a recognized hallmark of many autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases.
