Treatment Adherence

Meaning

Treatment Adherence, often interchangeably termed compliance, is the degree to which a patient’s behavior—including taking medication, following a diet, or executing lifestyle changes—corresponds with the recommendations agreed upon with their healthcare provider. This is a critical determinant of therapeutic success in managing chronic hormonal conditions, such as hypothyroidism or hormone replacement therapy, where consistent dosing is paramount. Suboptimal adherence can lead to fluctuating hormone levels, treatment failure, and a misinterpretation of the therapeutic regimen’s true efficacy or side-effect profile.
