Trastuzumab

Meaning

Trastuzumab is a targeted monoclonal antibody therapy utilized for the treatment of cancers that overexpress the Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor 2 (HER2) protein, most notably a specific aggressive subtype of breast cancer. This biologic agent acts by directly binding to the HER2 receptor on the surface of tumor cells, thereby inhibiting their growth and proliferation signals. It has significantly improved the prognosis for HER2-positive malignancies.
