Transsphenoidal Surgery

Meaning

Transsphenoidal Surgery is a minimally invasive neurosurgical procedure used to access and remove tumors, most commonly adenomas, located in the pituitary gland or the surrounding sella turcica region. The technique involves accessing the pituitary gland through the nasal cavity and the sphenoid sinus, thus avoiding a craniotomy and minimizing disruption to brain tissue. This approach is the primary surgical modality for treating most hormone-secreting pituitary tumors.
