Transmission Security Protocols

Meaning

Transmission Security Protocols refer to the mandated measures and technologies used to protect electronic protected health information, or ePHI, while it is being transmitted over an electronic network outside of a covered entity’s internal network. As a core component of the HIPAA Security Rule, these protocols ensure that sensitive data, such as real-time continuous glucose monitoring results or remote hormonal therapy adjustments, remain confidential and unalterable during transit. Encryption and authentication are primary examples of these crucial safeguards in the digital health environment.
