Transdermal Microneedles

Meaning

Transdermal microneedles are microscopic projections, tens to hundreds of micrometers long, engineered to painlessly penetrate the skin’s outermost layer, the stratum corneum. These devices create transient aqueous channels, enhancing therapeutic compound passage across the dermal barrier. Their primary function is to bypass the skin’s protective stratum corneum, which naturally restricts most molecular absorption.
