Transdermal HRT

Meaning

A specific therapeutic modality within Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) where bioidentical or synthetic hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, are administered via a patch, gel, or spray applied to the skin. This route of administration is clinically preferred for its ability to deliver hormones directly into the bloodstream, avoiding the first-pass hepatic metabolism associated with oral formulations. It offers a favorable safety profile, particularly concerning the risk of venous thromboembolism.
