Transdermal Estradiol Administration

Meaning

Transdermal estradiol administration is a method of delivering the bioidentical estrogen hormone, estradiol, through the skin via patches, gels, or sprays, allowing for direct absorption into the systemic circulation. This route of administration is clinically preferred for hormone replacement therapy as it avoids the first-pass metabolism by the liver, which occurs with oral ingestion. Bypassing the liver minimizes the impact on clotting factors and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) synthesis.
