Transcutaneous VNS

Meaning

Transcutaneous VNS (tVNS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technique that utilizes mild electrical stimulation applied externally to specific cutaneous branches of the vagus nerve, typically at the ear, to influence the autonomic nervous system. The clinical goal is to activate the afferent vagal fibers, thereby inducing a sympathoinhibitory effect and promoting parasympathetic dominance. This technique is utilized in the hormonal health space to manage chronic stress, reduce inflammation, and improve heart rate variability.
