Transcriptional Activity

Meaning

Transcriptional activity is the fundamental molecular process occurring within the cell nucleus where a segment of DNA is accurately copied into a messenger RNA (mRNA) molecule by the enzyme RNA polymerase. This activity represents the first and most crucial step in gene expression, ultimately controlling which proteins are produced by the cell and in what quantity. In the context of hormonal health, transcriptional activity is the endpoint for genomic signaling, determining the specific and long-lasting cellular response to steroid and thyroid hormones.
