Trans Fats

Meaning

Trans fats are a specific type of unsaturated fatty acid characterized by at least one double bond in the trans geometric configuration, contrasting with the more common cis configuration found in natural unsaturated fats. These lipids are predominantly formed through an industrial process called partial hydrogenation of vegetable oils, designed to increase their stability and solidify them at room temperature, though small amounts occur naturally in ruminant animal products.
