Trabecular Perforation

Meaning

Trabecular perforation is a pathological event in bone metabolism characterized by the complete breakage and disconnection of the individual rod- or plate-like bony structures known as trabeculae within the spongy, interior part of the bone. This structural damage represents a severe and irreversible loss of bone microarchitecture, significantly compromising the bone’s mechanical strength and dramatically increasing the risk of fragility fractures. It is a hallmark feature of advanced osteoporosis, a condition often linked to hormonal deficiency.
