Trabecular Bone Score

Meaning

The Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) is an advanced, non-invasive clinical measure derived from the standard Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) image, providing an index of bone microarchitecture and texture, independent of bone mineral density (BMD). This score offers crucial, complementary insight into the quality of the internal bone structure, which is a major determinant of fracture risk. Integrating TBS with BMD provides a more comprehensive assessment of skeletal health, particularly in the context of age-related or hormonally induced osteoporosis.
