Trabecular Bone

Meaning

Trabecular bone, also known as cancellous or spongy bone, is the porous, internal structure of bone tissue characterized by a network of delicate, interconnected bony plates and rods called trabeculae, found primarily in the ends of long bones and within the vertebrae. This architecture provides mechanical strength while remaining lightweight and housing the bone marrow. Due to its high surface area and metabolic activity, it is significantly more sensitive to hormonal fluctuations than cortical bone.
