TR/RXR Heterodimer

Meaning

The TR/RXR Heterodimer is a functional protein complex formed by the physical association of the Thyroid Hormone Receptor (TR) and the Retinoid X Receptor (RXR), both belonging to the nuclear receptor superfamily. This heterodimer represents the essential molecular machinery that binds to specific DNA sequences in the nucleus to regulate gene transcription in response to thyroid hormone (T3). It is the central mechanism for translating the endocrine signal into a cellular metabolic response.
