Toxic Burden

Meaning

Toxic Burden, often referred to as Body Burden, is the cumulative, total quantity of various exogenous and endogenous toxic substances—including heavy metals, environmental pollutants, pesticides, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs)—that have accumulated within an individual’s body tissues and organs over time. This chronic accumulation represents a significant physiological stressor that challenges the body’s detoxification capacity.
