Topical Estriol

Meaning

Topical estriol refers to the application of the specific, weaker estrogen known as estriol (E3) directly onto the skin or mucous membranes, typically formulated in a cream, gel, or suppository base. This route of administration is primarily utilized to achieve localized therapeutic effects with minimal systemic absorption, particularly for treating symptoms related to genitourinary syndrome of menopause, such as vaginal atrophy or dryness. Estriol is considered a milder estrogen compared to estradiol (E2).
