TMPRSS2-ERG Gene Fusion

Meaning

The TMPRSS2-ERG gene fusion is a specific chromosomal rearrangement joining the androgen-regulated TMPRSS2 gene with the ERG oncogene. This creates a novel genetic sequence. It is the most common genetic alteration in prostate cancer, found in about half of all cases. The resulting fusion gene produces an abnormal protein, contributing to disease development.
