TLR4 Signaling

Meaning

TLR4 signaling refers to the complex intracellular cascade initiated by the activation of Toll-like Receptor 4 (TLR4), a key pattern recognition receptor expressed on the surface of various immune and non-immune cells. This receptor is primarily known for recognizing lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a major component of Gram-negative bacteria, thereby initiating a robust innate immune and inflammatory response. In the context of metabolic health, chronic or aberrant TLR4 signaling is a key molecular link between low-grade inflammation and the development of systemic insulin resistance.
