Tissue-Resident Memory T Cells

Meaning

Tissue-Resident Memory T Cells (TRM) are a specialized subpopulation of T lymphocytes that establish permanent residency within non-lymphoid tissues, such as the skin, gut, and lungs, without recirculating through the blood. These cells provide immediate, localized immunological surveillance and rapid defense against previously encountered pathogens at the body’s barriers. They are a critical component of adaptive immunity and tissue homeostasis.
