Tissue Quality Metrics

Meaning

A set of quantitative, objective measurements used to assess the structural integrity, functional capacity, and biological health of specific tissues, such as muscle, bone, skin, or vasculature, often going beyond simple mass or density. These metrics include parameters like muscle fiber size and contractility, bone microarchitecture, skin collagen density, and arterial stiffness. Monitoring tissue quality is crucial in longevity medicine as it provides a more accurate reflection of functional aging and resilience than traditional, often singular, clinical markers. The goal is to track the biological state of tissues over time.
