Tissue Partitioning

Meaning

Tissue Partitioning is the metabolic process by which the body preferentially directs circulating nutrients and energy substrates, such as glucose and fatty acids, toward specific tissues for storage or utilization. This process is primarily regulated by key metabolic hormones, including insulin, glucagon, and growth hormone. Optimal partitioning favors the deposition of energy into lean muscle mass and vital organs while discouraging the accumulation of ectopic and visceral adipose tissue. It is a critical determinant of body composition, metabolic health, and hormonal sensitivity.
