Tissue Oxygenation

Meaning

Tissue oxygenation is the critical physiological process of ensuring that a sufficient supply of oxygen is delivered to and utilized by the cells of all peripheral tissues to support aerobic respiration and energy production. Adequate oxygenation is a prerequisite for optimal cellular function, metabolic efficiency, and the synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters. Compromised oxygen delivery, often due to issues with red blood cell function or microcirculation, can lead to systemic fatigue and functional decline in high-metabolism organs.
