Tissue Edema

Meaning

Tissue Edema is the clinical manifestation of an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the interstitial spaces—the area between cells—within a specific organ or body part, resulting in swelling. In the context of hormonal health, edema is frequently a side effect or a clinical sign of underlying endocrine dysregulation, particularly with fluctuations or excess of hormones like estrogen, progesterone, or cortisol, which influence fluid and electrolyte balance. Recognizing the hormonal link to fluid retention is essential for accurate diagnosis and management.
