Timed Light Exposure

Meaning

Timed Light Exposure is a specific therapeutic and behavioral intervention involving the intentional, measured use of bright light, often from a specialized light box, delivered at precise moments relative to an individual’s sleep-wake cycle. This technique is used to manipulate the body’s central circadian rhythm, which is governed by the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). Its primary application is in treating sleep-wake phase disorders and effectively managing the endocrine disruption caused by trans-meridian travel. This is a non-pharmacological tool for chronotherapy.
