Time above Range

Meaning

Time above Range (TAR) is a key metric derived from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data, quantifying the cumulative percentage of time an individual’s interstitial glucose concentration remains above a predetermined upper limit, typically set at 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L). A high TAR indicates a state of hyperglycemia, which is associated with increased risk of microvascular and macrovascular complications, making it a crucial target for therapeutic intervention in diabetes and metabolic dysregulation. This metric provides a clear, actionable measure of glycemic control quality.
