Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone

Meaning

A tripeptide hormone synthesized and released by the hypothalamus that serves as the primary regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis. Abbreviated as TRH, its principal action is to stimulate the anterior pituitary gland to secrete Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH). This crucial neurohormone initiates the cascade that ultimately controls the body’s basal metabolic rate and systemic energy homeostasis.
