Thyroid Suppression

Meaning

Thyroid suppression refers to the intentional reduction of the thyroid gland’s activity, typically achieved by administering exogenous thyroid hormones. This intervention aims to lower the secretion of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) from the pituitary gland, consequently decreasing the thyroid gland’s endogenous production of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). This is a controlled medical strategy.
