Thyroid Signaling Efficiency

Meaning

The measure of how effectively the body’s cells respond to the circulating thyroid hormones, primarily triiodothyronine (T3), reflecting the optimal functioning of the entire thyroid axis, from hormone production to receptor binding and downstream genetic activation. High efficiency is characterized by the correct peripheral conversion of thyroxine (T4) to the active T3 and the proper expression and sensitivity of nuclear thyroid hormone receptors in target tissues. Suboptimal efficiency, even with normal hormone levels, can manifest as persistent metabolic and energy complaints.
