Thyroid Hormone T3 T4

Meaning

The two primary iodothyronine hormones produced by the thyroid gland: Thyroxine (T4), the prohormone, and Triiodothyronine (T3), the metabolically active form. These hormones are essential regulators of the body’s basal metabolic rate, influencing oxygen consumption, protein synthesis, and the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids, and vitamins across nearly all cell types. Their balance is fundamental to energy homeostasis and thermal regulation.
