Thyroid Hormone Synthesis

Meaning

Thyroid Hormone Synthesis is the complex biochemical process, primarily occurring in the follicular cells of the thyroid gland, by which the body produces the metabolically active hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). This process is critically dependent on the uptake of dietary iodine and is tightly regulated by Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) from the pituitary gland. Optimal synthesis is essential for maintaining the basal metabolic rate, thermogenesis, and cellular energy production throughout the body.
