Thyroid Gland

Meaning

The thyroid gland is a vital endocrine organ, positioned anteriorly in the neck, responsible for the production and secretion of thyroid hormones, specifically triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). These iodine-containing hormones are fundamental regulators of metabolic rate, growth, and development across nearly all body tissues. Additionally, the thyroid gland produces calcitonin, a hormone that contributes to calcium homeostasis.
