Thyroid Function Panel

Meaning

A Thyroid Function Panel is a standardized collection of blood tests utilized in clinical practice to comprehensively assess the functional status of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis, which is the body’s master metabolic regulator. The panel typically includes measurements of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free Thyroxine (fT4), and Free Triiodothyronine (fT3), and often includes thyroid antibodies to screen for autoimmunity. Interpreting these integrated results is essential for accurately diagnosing conditions ranging from subclinical hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism and for meticulously titrating replacement therapy.
