Thyroid Function Hormones

Meaning

Thyroid Function Hormones are the principal endocrine secretions of the thyroid gland, primarily Thyroxine (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3), which are indispensable for regulating the body’s basal metabolic rate, core body temperature, cardiac function, and overall systemic energy homeostasis. T4 is recognized as the relatively inactive prohormone, whereas T3 is the biologically active form that directly engages with cellular receptors to exert its powerful metabolic effects. Clinical assessment relies on measuring these hormones alongside Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH).
