Thyroid Function Disruption

Meaning

Thyroid Function Disruption refers to any deviation from the optimal production, conversion, transport, or action of thyroid hormones, including triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), at the cellular level. This disruption can range from overt clinical hypo- or hyperthyroidism to subtle, subclinical states of cellular resistance or impaired conversion of T4 to the active T3. It profoundly impacts the body’s metabolic rate, energy production, body temperature, and the function of nearly every organ system.
