Thyroid Function Coercion

Meaning

Thyroid Function Coercion refers to the external or internal physiological pressures, such as severe caloric restriction, chronic psychological stress, or excessive inflammatory signaling, that force the thyroid axis into a state of suppressed or suboptimal function despite the absence of primary thyroid gland pathology. This non-homeostatic state, often characterized by low T3 or impaired T4 to T3 conversion, is a metabolic defense mechanism that ultimately slows cellular metabolism. It is a critical, often overlooked, driver of fatigue and metabolic sluggishness. The system is defensively downregulating energy expenditure.
