Thyroid Disruption

Meaning

Thyroid disruption refers to any pathological or functional disturbance that impairs the normal synthesis, secretion, transport, or action of thyroid hormones (T4 and T3). This encompasses a spectrum of conditions, ranging from overt hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism to subtle subclinical dysfunction or impaired peripheral hormone conversion. The disruption can originate at the level of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, thyroid gland itself, or target tissues. Given the systemic role of thyroid hormones in metabolism, temperature regulation, and energy, any disruption significantly impacts overall well-being and systemic health.
