Thyroid Axis Assessment

Meaning

A comprehensive clinical and laboratory evaluation of the entire hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis, extending beyond the measurement of TSH to include free and total levels of T4 and T3, reverse T3, and relevant autoantibodies. This detailed assessment is essential for accurately diagnosing subtle thyroid dysfunction, which significantly impacts metabolic rate, energy production, and overall hormonal equilibrium. The goal is to identify both overt and subclinical imbalances that compromise systemic function.
