Thromboembolic Event

Meaning

A Thromboembolic Event is a serious clinical occurrence defined by the formation of a blood clot, known as a thrombus, which subsequently dislodges and travels through the circulatory system as an embolus. This mobile clot then lodges in a smaller blood vessel, causing an obstruction of blood flow to a vital organ, leading to conditions like pulmonary embolism or stroke. Hormonal therapies, particularly those involving exogenous estrogen, necessitate a careful assessment of a patient’s risk for this life-threatening complication.
