Thromboembolic Complications

Meaning

Thromboembolic Complications are serious adverse medical events involving the formation of a blood clot, or thrombus, within a blood vessel, which can then dislodge and travel as an embolus to obstruct blood flow elsewhere in the circulation. These life-threatening conditions include deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and certain types of stroke and myocardial infarction. Specific hormonal therapies, particularly those involving high-dose or oral estrogens, are known to increase the clinical risk of these complications.
