Threat Perception Bias

Meaning

Threat Perception Bias is a cognitive and emotional predisposition, often exacerbated by chronic stress, that leads an individual to consistently interpret ambiguous or neutral stimuli as potentially dangerous or threatening. This bias is rooted in a hyper-responsive amygdala and a compromised prefrontal cortex, resulting in a state of perpetual, low-grade physiological arousal and chronic HPA axis activation. It is a self-perpetuating cycle of stress and negative emotionality.
