Therapeutic Use Exemptions

Meaning

Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) are formal authorizations granted by regulatory bodies, typically in the domain of sports or competitive activities, that permit an athlete to use a prohibited substance or method for a documented medical reason. In hormonal health, this is relevant when a patient requires treatment with a hormone or peptide, such as testosterone replacement therapy, that is otherwise banned due to its performance-enhancing potential. A TUE ensures that a patient’s legitimate medical need for endocrine therapy does not preclude their participation in regulated activities.
