Testosterone Synthesis Interference

Meaning

Testosterone synthesis interference describes the disruption of the biochemical cascade within the Leydig cells of the testes or the adrenal glands that is necessary for the production of the androgen testosterone. This interference can occur at multiple enzymatic steps, from the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone down to the final conversion to testosterone, leading to a measurable decline in endogenous testosterone levels. This is a critical factor in the etiology of functional hypogonadism and age-related androgen deficiency.
