Testosterone Rhythmicity

Meaning

Testosterone rhythmicity refers to the characteristic, predictable, and cyclical pattern of testosterone secretion that occurs over a 24-hour period, which is a key example of a circadian rhythm. In healthy young males, this rhythm is marked by a distinct peak in serum testosterone levels in the early morning and a corresponding trough in the late afternoon or evening. This diurnal variation is vital for maintaining optimal energy, mood regulation, and libido. Disruption of this natural rhythm, often linked to sleep disturbances or chronic stress, can contribute significantly to symptoms of androgen deficiency.
